Genghis Khan and His Falcon

Here is the summary of a story which I liked after reading it yesterday morning during my 2 hrs bus journey. A story about the great Mongol Genghis Khan and his favorite falcon..

One day Genghis and his court went out in the forest for hunting.Genghis Khan carried on his arm his pet Falcon.
After all the efforts by the group, they couldn't find anything. So Genghis told his crew to return to the fort and he rode alone into the forest. After a long tiring journey, Genghis was thirsty and weak. It was a summer time and he couldn't find any stream.
But to his surprise he found a small thread of water flowing from a rock in front of him.

He used to carry a silver cup every time he went out. He removed the falcon and took the silver cup out.He filled the cup with the water (this took a long time since the water flow was very less).
He filled it and was about to drink it , The Falcon flew up,plucked the cup from his hands and dashed it to the ground.

Genghis became really furious, but the bird was his favorite, so he took the cup again and with great difficulty filled it again. The Falcon again attacked it spilling all of the water.

Though he loved the Bird, It was a real disrespect to the conqueror.
He took the cup again and filled it . This time when the Falcon flew up to attack the cup,Genghis drew his sword, and pierced the birds breast.

By this time the thread of water all dried up.But Khan was so thirsty,so he climbed up the rock to see what was on the other side.
To his surprise, there was a pond of water there.and in the middle of the pond ,dead, lay the most poisonous snake in that region.
Khan now understood the act of the Falcon. He returned to his fort with the dead falcon.
He ordered to make a gold figurine of that bird.

On one wing he engraved
'Even when a friend does something  you do not like,he continues to be your friend'

And on the other wing
'Any action committed in anger is an action  doomed to failure'

The Laughing Chamaeleonidae!

When my brother Jack spotted him , we thought he wanted to say something to us.

A close look made us think again, Is this guy giving a smile at us?,Do they really smile?

Hmm.. that is not a smile for sure . Anyway he is posing well for the picture .

Another angle made it clear. It was a dead scale .
This is a common thing called the Skin Shedding of chameleons.

We got this pics from the garden of St Francis Church, Goa
